A research team from Brazil has discovered a way to refine the process of turning landfill gas to hydrogen using a "perovskite-type oxide" as part of the catalyst to prevent carbon byproduct buildup. The perovskite-type oxide ensures the nickel particles maintain the right particle size throughout the hydrogen conversion process, preventing the excessive carbon byproduct. The improved process, which is still undergoing tests, may allow landfill gas to be used for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
