Women who underwent radial-access PCI or cardiac catheterization had a 60% lower incidence of bleeding than those treated via a femoral approach, according to a study of more than 1,000 female patients. The study should prompt interventionalists to utilize the radial approach as long as women are informed of the higher risk they will be shifted to the femoral approach due to their typically smaller radial arteries, said author and SCAI fellow Dr. Sunil V. Rao.
