Survey data showed 51.9% of patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator generator did not know they had the option of not replacing it, and 27.2% of those patients indicated they would have considered not replacing it if they had known, according to Canadian researchers. The study reported in JAMA Internal Medicine showed most patients felt it was important to talk with a physician about the benefits and risks of continuing ICD therapy before making a decision about replacement.
