Tumblr users increased by nearly half last year and a further 25% gain is projected for this year by eMarketer. The performance provides a lift for owner Yahoo, where display ad revenue continues to decline.
A Yahoo study found that mobile ads create a more emotive response from consumers and that millennials have the strongest response to all advertising. Consumers spent 47% more time on mobile devices in 2015 compared with 2014 and 12% less watching TV, yet television ad spend is still 41% compared with digital's 34%, eMarketer and Yahoo report.
A jump in the number of big brands with major ad budgets is one major factor that buoyed mobile-ad cost-per-thousand prices this year despite a surge in the number of impressions, according to eMarketer. The study cites several other factors, including more sophisticated formats and improved targeting.
Current Web development is more than just developing a website and delivering static information, it requires a constant focus on "immersive interactivity," writes Rahul Mahida. This goal is present in Web services that deliver consumable information at the right time as well as Web applications that can continually update or deliver new information without the need for a static refresh. The ultimate goal is "making systems that provide meaningful information and interactivity," he writes.
Website builders including Weebly and Wix have let millions of people create simple websites very quickly, but they may cause some problems not present with hiring a designer. The largest issue is migrating files or an entire site to a new server, with Wix not supporting any migration and native Weebly services for blogging and sales unable to be transferred. These builders "won't be able to keep up with your needs as your website's traffic grows," Rean John Uehara writes.
