Health care overall added 7,000 new jobs last month, about the same as the month before, according to federal data. Hospitals and nursing homes lost jobs, but hiring by ambulatory care facilities increased, mostly through positions in physician offices and at home-care companies. Recent flat hiring by hospitals may reflect mergers, payer incentives to shift care to outpatient settings and payment cuts in states that did not expand Medicaid.
