- Health, education and defense rally against sequestration
As the days tick down to the March 1 sequestration deadline, the Aerospace Industries Association has aligned with those in health and education to push Congress to stop the cuts. "We're stronger united than divided," said Emily Holubowich, executive director of the Coalition for Health Funding. Defense and domestic groups plan a major lobbying effort this week, while the Joint Chiefs of Staff and secretaries of Housing and Urban Development, homeland security and education will testify at congressional hearings this week. - Blakey: "Time to act" on sequestration
Already, the negative effects of sequestration are being felt, writes Marion Blakey, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. Profit and headcount at defense contractors and the nation's GDP are slipping, she says. "Sequestration is no way to run a great nation," Blakey writes. "The outlines of a balanced, bipartisan approach to our nation's debt and deficit issues — a combination of targeted budget cuts, entitlement reforms and additional tax reforms — are well known. - Pentagon will submit 2014 budget on March 25
The Defense Department will put forward its proposed fiscal 2014 budget on March 25, though some parts of its budget -- spending for intelligence and information technology -- will come in April. The Pentagon budget won't take into account sequestration cuts, and if the cuts go through, the budget date may change. Defense News

- Presidential cyberdefense order may come this week
White House officials say President Barack Obama may issue an executive order on the nation's cyberdefense after his State of the Union speech Tuesday.
