- Rural telecoms boost adoption of FTTH and FTTN, survey finds
While copper loops still account for most broadband connections in rural communities, almost three-quarters of rural telecoms say they have deployed fiber-to-the-home technology, up from 64% in an earlier survey. Nearly half of the survey respondents report they are using fiber-to-the-neighborhood technology for broadband access. Telecompetitor.com

- Broadband is on the way in Navajo Nation
The Navajo Nation is completing a broadband network that cost about $46 million. The network will connect more than 30,000 households, 1,100 community institutions and 1,000 businesses. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration provided a stimulus grant of $32.2 million for the project, with the remainder of the funding coming from the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority Wireless and Commnet Wireless. - AT&T extends Digital Life home-automation debut to 15 markets
AT&T is bullish on its new Digital Life service and will open it this spring in 15 markets, up from its original plan to launch in eight cities, Nicole Lee writes. - S.C. legislators support expansion of university telehealth program
The South Carolina House of Representatives included $8 million for the expansion of a telehealth initiative at the Medical University of South Carolina in its recently approved $22.7 billion state budget, Adam Beam writes. Legislators expect the program's expansion to address some of the health problems in the state by offering specialized care to patients in rural areas. The State (Columbia, S.C.)
