DIRECTV Now adds local networks
DIRECTV Now has added ABC, Fox and NBC affiliates to its over-the-top service, doubling its number of live local channels since launching last year. Also, the company has announced that it plans to triple its number of live local offerings from NBC, ABC and Fox by August.

FCC reinstates phone privacy rules
The Federal Communications Commission has reinstated phone privacy rules that were in place before the 2016 Privacy Order. FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn dissented from the rule change in part, saying that it does not provide clarity into broadband privacy.

DISH, DIRECTV boosting hotel streaming services
AT&T's DIRECTV and DISH Network have begun working with hotels to provide guests with streaming abilities from their devices to TV sets to make them feel more at home. Hotels linked to DIRECTV can offer AT&T's Staycast service, which is powered by Google Chromecast.

Study: High-quality video boosts ROI
Video ads have much greater return on investment than image ads despite the greater upfront cost for video, per a study from Marketing Land. The study found that all video ads perform the same at first but that higher-quality videos perform the best in the long term.

Tablo develops app to turn Nvidia Shield into DVR
Tablo has developed an app that will allow Android TV owners to record over-the-air content from digital antennas. The Tablo Engine app permits recording of live TV using the Nvidia Shield without the need for additional hardware.

Study: US has 38% smart home penetration
About 38% of US consumers have a least one smart device in their homes, a survey from Futuresource said. Most often, consumers reported having a connected security device, though climate control and entertainment device use is growing, the survey said.
