Para-aortic radiation raises diabetes risk in HL survivors
Hodgkin lymphoma survivors had significantly increased odds of diabetes at 30 years following para-aortic radiation with ≥36 Gy, research showed. Research ties gene mutation to higher diabetes risk
Individuals who carry a rare genetic variant of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma had a sevenfold increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who did not carry the mutation, research showed. High-fat diet tied to more abdominal fat in teens
Teens who consumed between 33.6% and 41.4% of total calories from fat had 2% to 7% more belly fat than their peers who ate the least amount of fat, according to a Spanish study in the journal Clinical Nutrition. Intake of more than 41.4% of total calories from fat was associated with a 38% to 42% greater amount of belly fat compared with teens who ate less than 33.6% of total calories from fat. Study links higher obesity risk at 21 with less sleep at 16

Calorie counseling sessions may cut pregnancy weight gain in obese women
Data published in Obesity revealed obese pregnant women who received individualized calorie goal counseling and weekly group discussions had a mean weight gain of 11 pounds at 34 weeks' gestation, compared with 18.5 pounds in the control group. CBO lowers 10-year projection of spending for Medicare, Medicaid
