The Kansas Senate on Wednesday joined the House in overwhelmingly approving legislation aimed at deregulating telecoms in the state, in essence treating them as wireless or cable-TV carriers. • Google exec lays out case for variable-speed Ethernet
Google is lobbying for changes to the protocols governing Ethernet delivery to allow for so-called variable-rate transmissions somewhere between the industry standards of 100 Gbps or 400 Gbps. Speaking recently on an industry panel, Bikash Koley, Google's manager of network architecture, said allowing for more flexibility in Ethernet rate delivery could help providers be more efficient and save costs. "The reason we keep forcing the industry to reduce cost of goods is because we cannot use them efficiently," Koley said. Light Reading (3/27) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
