Cloud DVR feature from Sling TV hits iOS
Sling TV subscribers can now access the company's cloud DVR feature on iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads. The service costs an additional $5 per month and comes with 50 hours of cloud storage.

AT&T offers Chromecast streaming in hotels
AT&T is providing the Staycast system from Sonify Solutions to hotels with DIRECTV service, enabling guests to stream videos from their smartphones to televisions in their rooms. Staycast is based upon Google's Chromecast streaming adapter and works with the Hotel Cast phone application.

FCC approves OneWeb satellite service
OneWeb satellite broadband service will be coming to the US after the Federal Communications Commission gave the green light to its request to deliver service stateside. Permission has been granted pending new rules on spectrum sharing and fixed satellite systems, which will lay out sharing criteria.

Samsung Gear VR headset to include OLED display
The upcoming Samsung Gear VR headset will include an OLED display and will work as a stand-alone option, Naver reports. The headset will reportedly offer a pixel density of 2,000 ppi, which is significantly higher than other offerings in the segment.

Low streaming quality increased viewers' negative emotions 16%, while engagement dropped 20%, per an Akamai study that used the Sensum Insights platform. The study also found that 76% of viewers would quit using a service if multiple streaming issues occurred.

Vimeo shifts focus to creator community, drops SVOD plans
Vimeo has confirmed that it will no longer be moving forward with the subscription-video-on-demand service it had planned to launch in 2018. The company says it will dissolve its development team and refocus its efforts on its creator community for video content.

Sources: Facebook sets $3M budget for scripted TV episodes

Facebook is working with studios and agencies to acquire original scripted programming to ramp up its video platform this summer, sources say. The company has reportedly set a production budget of $3 million per episode for original scripted series and is also on the lookout for short-form content for its Spotlight section.
