- Housing woes prompt Universal Forest to shutter some facilities
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Universal Forest Products Inc. will shut down six plants in the U.S. and Canada as a result of the decline in new housing construction. "In a housing market that continues to deteriorate, we must proactively manage our assets and operations, position our company for growth when housing stabilizes, and take advantage of opportunities in our three other core markets," said President-CEO Michael Glenn. - Dot Foods completes $13M warehouse expansion
Dot Foods Inc. plans to hire 100 new workers now that the expansion of its warehouse space at its Williamsport, Md., distribution center has wrapped. The $13 million expansion added 63,000 square feet of dry storage and 40,000 square feet of additional frozen storage space, bringing the facility's total size to more than 275,000 square feet.
