- Providing the right incentives for great salesmanship
Incentives are a great way to increase the performance of a sales staff, writes Tim Houlihan, but it is important for managers to know what they're rewarding and how those rewards are perceived. Get commitments from sales staff and reward those who exceed their goals, he notes, but make sure the incentives are tied to the most productive behaviors and are available to the entire top half of the team, not just the very best performers. Houlihan also suggests giving incentives that don't have a clear cash value, since they're more likely to be appreciated and seen as a special treat, not a part of the paycheck. SalesForceXP
