- Henry Schein makes offer for Software of Excellence
Henry Schein Inc., a global distributor of dental and medical equipment, is set to offer $58 million for the acquisition of Software of Excellence International Ltd., a New Zealand-based software company with about 5,000 dental-practice customers in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. "Our intention would be to have the management team of Software for Excellence join Henry Schein and keep [the company's] existing infrastructure substantially intact," Henry Schein's chairman and CEO said. - Benefits of data-sharing within the supply chain
Generally, neither manufacturers nor wholesaler-distributors see the market consumption, or true demand, for products in a demand-driven supply chain. But both parties can find benefits, such as increasing sales opportunities, in W-Ds agreeing to share demand data. A natural worry, however, is that manufacturers could use the data to bypass the distribution channel altogether, so W-Ds should take measures to ensure proper compensation before sharing such valuable information.
