Preparing for the 2009-2010 school year
 | |

Kathleen Puckett, 2009 CEC President

Getting back into the swing of things after summer break can be tough for students and teachers alike.
In Part I of this CEC SmartBrief Special Back-to-School Report, we caught you up on what you may have missed over the summer. We looked back at the important stories that affected special education and offered tips for special educators from Gayle Solis Zavala, CEC's 2009 Clarissa Hug National Teacher of the Year.
Today we'll look ahead to the upcoming year. First, we'll look at what's happening in your world, with the results of our polls of CEC SmartBrief readers on issues such as the effects of stimulus funding on special education and policies surrounding seclusion and restraint.
Those issues will continue to resonate throughout our field during the coming school year, and you can rely on CEC and CEC SmartBrief to keep you informed. If you don't receive CEC SmartBrief on a daily basis, we urge you to sign up. CEC SmartBrief delivers the stories making news in special education directly to your inbox -- for FREE.
We also have provided a list of CEC resources that can help special educators prepare for the 2009-2010 school year. Throughout the year, CEC will provide a host of professional development opportunities to keep you up to date on the latest topics affecting special education. And don't forget to meet us in Music City -- Nashville, Tenn. -- for our 2010 Convention & Expo, April 21 to 24.
Here's wishing you a fantastic school year!
