Reconstruction of New Mexico interchange a complex undertaking
The reconstruction of the "Big I" intersection of Interstates 25 and 40 in Albuquerque, N.M., has been much more of a complex logistical undertaking than the original construction of the interchange in the 1960s. Dubai arch bridge would be world's longest
Known for its over-the-top architectural aspirations, Dubai is planning what would become the world's longest arch structure. Massachusetts governor proposes $3.8B bridge repair bond
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick was due to unveil a sweeping plan on Thursday to give 411 deteriorating bridges across the state much needed repairs. The $3.8 billion bond proposal would create 23,000 construction jobs, according to a draft of the plan. The Boston Globe/Associated Press (4/9)

Educational construction projects get funding in New York
Several major educational institutions' initiatives, including construction projects, will get funding under New York's new $121.7 billion state budget. Among the projects to get funding is a new business school building for the University of Albany. American City Business Journals (4/10)

New York says no to LNG platform
New York Gov. David Paterson has rejected a proposal from Shell and TransCanada to build the Broadwater LNG platform, saying he wants to protect Long Island Sound. Connecticut's governor praised the decision, the latest setback for the energy industry's efforts to build a terminal off North America's eastern shores to import supplies of natural gas. Reuters (4/10)

Americans delaying retirement in uncertain economy
Americans are delaying retirement as the stock market and home prices continue to slide. The number of people between the ages of 55 and 64 in the work force rose to 64.8% in February, up 1.5 percentage points from last April. Lead-safety construction rule to take effect in 2010

World Trade Center mock-ups tested for durability
Two full-size mock-ups of sections of the new World Trade Center have been undergoing testing in recent months to make sure they can withstand everything from earthquakes to explosions. Florida gasoline pipeline gets outfitted to carry ethanol
Kinder Morgan's Central Florida Pipeline Co. is replacing pumps, seals, gaskets and other parts in its Florida pipeline in preparation for ethanol shipments to begin by the end of the year. Once the pipeline is retrofitted, CFP will clean and test it before starting ethanol transport. Oil & Gas Journal (4/9)

Senate passes housing bill
Home builders and other businesses would get tax breaks under a bill approved by the Senate on Thursday. The bill seeks to shore up the struggling housing market and includes a $7,000 tax credit for buyers of foreclosed homes, $150 million for counseling borrowers and $4 billion for local governments to buy foreclosed properties.
