Leadership can promote richer work, home, community, self
Stewart D. Friedman teaches a concept he calls Total Leadership at the Wharton School -- an application of leadership in work, home, community and self. U.S. considers ways to value complex, opaque securities
Robert Steel, U.S. Treasury undersecretary for domestic finance, said American authorities are looking at ways to establish benchmark descriptions, and possibly valuations, of complex mortgage-backed securities to boost transparency. Some experts say an industry association such as SIFMA, which is led by former JPMorgan Chase Vice Chairman Tim Ryan, could spearhead the effort to establish benchmark approaches to valuations. Steel said the Treasury is still exploring the idea and has not yet developed proposals. Financial Times (free content) (4/4)
API: Loss of tax incentive would hinder oil production
U.S. consumers need more energy from a variety of sources -- including oil, API President Red Cavaney writes in a blog at USATODAY.com. The oil and natural gas industry is not opposed to tax incentives for the development of alternative energy, but paying for these incentives by taking money away from the oil industry will eliminate income that would be spent producing more oil and gas. The industry spent $1.25 trillion on long-term energy projects between 1992 and 2006, he said. USA TODAY (4/2)
