Study: Malaria vaccine induces strong immune response in children
A U.S. study involving 100 West African children ages 1 to 6 showed that an experimental malaria vaccine generated an immune response that is comparable to or stronger than that of adults with lifelong exposure to malaria. The vaccine, which contains an adjuvant from GlaxoSmithKline, works by zeroing in on the parasite at the stage when it is actively infecting red blood cells and causing fever and other symptoms of the disease.
