Registration fee hike could increase funding for Idaho airports

Legislation proposing a hike in aircraft registration fees is currently in Idaho's House of Representatives. If passed, it could mean 61 remote airports and landing strips in the state could receive increase funding. "There's been a significant loss of revenue lately because of the ... decrease in backcountry flying, and whatnot, and the fuel tax on aviation fuel," said state Rep. Marc Gibbs. "And so, we're having trouble maintaining a lot of these airports that don't qualify for federal funds."  Idaho State Journal (Pocatello) (tiered subscription model) (2/27)
