Fish consumption, vitamin D linked to reduced AMD risk

Consumption of fish, especially those high in omega-3 fatty acids, and the use of vitamin D supplements can help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration in the elderly, two new studies found. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in those older than 60, but researchers looking at 4,519 people between the ages of 60 and 80 found that those who ate more fish were least likely to have the disease, and a second study of 7,752 people found that those who took vitamin D had a reduced risk of early AMD.  MSNBC/Reuters (05/14)
