Companies can avoid potentially embarrassing mishaps involving their products' names by turning to a translation firm, whose job is to check for alternate meanings in multiple languages. In one case, Charlotte, N.C.-based Choice Translating helped the maker of a weight-loss pill avoid assigning its product the name "Tegro," which was phonetically similar to the French words for "you are fat."
