Congress calls on Internet companies to fight pornography
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is investigating the possibility of passing legislation that would require search engines and other Internet companies to maintain data files on users for at least a year to facilitate investigations into online sexual predators. Some Internet companies reacting to the proposal complained that the additional storage would be costly, with one large provider saying storing the data for a year would cost tens of millions of dollars.
