The US Department of Labor on Thursday reported that 2.4 million workers filed jobless claims last week, for a nine-week total of more than 38 million new claims. "The cause of this recession -- a global pandemic -- means that our economic future will be determined in large part by the path of the virus," said Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams.
