US retail sales grew 1.2% in July after surging 8.4% the previous month, and sales excluding autos were up 1.9%, according to the Commerce Department. Sales growth slowed as a rise in new COVID-19 cases affected some reopenings and consumers tightened spending as federal unemployment benefits neared an end.
