Parents will spend a record amount on back-to-school shopping this year, despite the uncertainties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, as families purchase laptops, tablets and other technology to support at-home learning, according to NRF's annual survey. Families with kids in elementary through high school will spend a record $789.49 per family, for a total of $33.9 billion -- a new high for the survey -- and families with college students will spend an average of $1,059.20 per family for a record of $67.7 billion in total spending, NRF found.
