The discovery that a genetic mutation that causes Bardet-Biedl syndrome occurs naturally in rhesus monkeys could lead to treatments for the condition as well as other eye disorders in humans, according to a study published in Experimental Eye Research. BBS causes vision loss and kidney dysfunction, and no cure exists, says study co-author Martha Neuringer.
