Researchers found that five genes -- BIN1, TMEM175, SNCA, APOE, and GBA -- could help determine if a person will develop Lewy body dementia, according to a study reported in Nature Genetics. The findings, based on a comparative analysis of chromosomal DNA sequences from 7,912 patients with and without Lewy body dementia, also suggested that LBD patients were more likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.
