The Fraunhofer Center for Applied Photonics has received $6.9 million from the Scottish government and Scottish Enterprise for laser technology research. "Photonics is a key enabling technology and Scotland punches above its weight with a thriving, globally-competitive sector, with the Fraunhofer Center for Applied Photonics at its heart," said Paul Wheelhouse, Scotland's innovation minister, in announcing the award.
