Two entangled quantum memories were transmitted for 50 kilometers, far outpacing the previous record and boosting the prospects of an ultrafast quantum internet one day. "The main technology advance lies in developing an efficient atom-photon entanglement source that is suitable for low-loss transmission in fibers," said Xiao-Hui Bao, co-author of the study published in Nature.
