A study in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine examined 17 teens who presented within 48 hours after a mild concussion and found that those who had oral magnesium added to treatment for symptom management had a statistically significant improvement in symptom severity between zero and 48 hours, compared with the placebo treatment group. "Decreasing the symptomatic period helps to allow these kids to return to school/sport faster while maintaining safe return to play precautions," said researcher Dr. Louis Standiford.
