The black hole at the center of the Milky Way may be surrounded by magnetic field lines that are blocking material from falling into it, according to findings presented at this month's American Astronomical Society meeting. "The spiral shape of the magnetic field channels the gas into an orbit around the black hole," said study leader C. Darren Dowell.
