Women who gave birth at least five times had 47% increased odds of developing dementia, compared with those who gave birth only once, but those who gave birth two or three times had similar dementia risk as those who gave birth once or not at all, researchers reported in BMC Medicine. "Women who have given birth five or more times are more likely to have diseases that increase the risk of dementia, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, which acts as a risk-raising factor," said researcher Jong Bin Bae.
