Trend shows companies replacing raises with bonuses

There has been a shift over the past few decades in the way workers are compensated, according to an Aon Hewitt survey. In 1991, raises made up 5% of total compensation budgets while bonuses made up 3.1%; in 2017, salary increases were 2.9% of the budget but bonuses were 12.7%.
