Among the more than 9,000 workers' compensation claims for construction injuries that occurred in 2014 and 2015 in Tennessee, 44.5% were from workers with less than a year of experience, according to the Construction Industry Research and Policy Center at the University of Tennessee. The lesson, says study author Edward Taylor, is that employers should focus more on their onboarding procedures and team new workers with experienced mentors.
