Gene therapy appears to have cured 16-year-old's sickle cell disease

At 16, Helen Obando is the youngest person to receive an experimental gene therapy for sickle cell disease shown to cure genetically engineered mice. In the months after treatment, Helen's total hemoglobin level is nearly normal, she has no signs of the disease, and she says she is looking forward to living the best life she's ever lived.
