Pioneers in biomedical science receive Lasker Awards

Veterinarian John Glen won a $250,000 Lasker Award for the development of propofol, one of the most widely used anesthesia drugs. Joan Argetsinger Steitz received the Lasker-Koshland Award for Special Achievement in Medical Science award for her efforts to advance the careers of young people, and especially women, in science; and C. David Allis and Michael Grunstein shared the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award for their discoveries on the role histones play in gene activation.
