Lasker awards go to immunotherapy researchers, Gavi

The primary inventors of trastuzumab, or Genentech's Herceptin -- the first monoclonal antibody to target a protein that causes cancer -- received this year's Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award, and two scientists who were instrumental in the discovery of B and T cells won the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award. This year's Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award went to international vaccine advocacy group Gavi, which has helped get more than 760 million children vaccinated.
