Researchers toiled in obscurity to develop Ebola vaccine

Research on Ebola virus vaccines has been hindered for years by the lack of a robust market coupled with the sporadic nature of outbreaks that makes testing in humans difficult. But recent outbreaks in West Africa shook the world from its complacency, and researchers were able to build on the work of scientists from countries on three continents to develop a vaccine that was approved in the US and Europe and used in Africa.
