Sanath Ramesh's son was born with a debilitating gene mutation shared by only nine other people in the world, so the software engineer developed a nonprofit and collaborated with patient advocacy groups on a software platform called Open Treatments that gives patient groups a framework for developing treatments. Users can use the platform to search the medical literature, identify experts, raise funds, design clinical trials and navigate legal issues.
