Tech that expands clinical trial participation may be boon to patients

Tom O'Leary, chief information officer of Ireland-based contract research organization ICON, says digital communication tools and wearable biometric monitors will improve clinical trial recruiting, efficiency and effectiveness, and predictive analytics can integrate external data into studies. Technology that eases the burden of clinical trial participation and thus expands access is good for patients, as "evidence shows that patients involved in trials often fare better than those with the same conditions who aren't," O'Leary says.
