A smartphone app called Face2Gene uses machine-learning algorithms and neural networks to analyze distinctive facial features from photographs of patients with neurodevelopmental or congenital disorders and returns a list of likely diagnoses. The app is available to health care providers at no charge to help them narrow down causes of difficult-to-diagnose conditions and to reduce ethnic bias by expanding the data set.
