The Air Force Space Command's push for commercial satellite communication services highlights the Pentagon's emphasis on private sector capabilities in space. "If NASA wanted to put a man or woman on Mars today, the fastest, most effective way to do that, might be to write a one or two-page statement of objectives and let Elon Musk, [Jeff] Bezos, Richard Branson and some others bid on that," said Ken Peterman, president of Viasat Government Systems.
