Some colleges have eliminated placement exams, but a new study finds that these tests may be useful in determining whether incoming students are ready for college-level work, researchers say. Christine Mokher, a Florida State University associate professor and study co-author, says the study may have been influenced by Florida's unique testing system, in which educators write the questions and align them with the curriculum.
