Standardized labels needed to reduce food waste

Confusing label language regarding a food's freshness results in significant food waste, but the phrases "best if used by" or "use by" are clear to 88% of consumers, according to a Grocery Manufacturers Association survey. Federal and even global standards should be set, as there is inconsistency from state to state concerning this language, advises the Consumer Goods Forum.
