When you have to fire an employee, do it in the middle of the week instead of a Friday, offer to help the person find another job and consider extending their benefits, HR executives say. "When you're dealing with terminations, you have to be clear, you have to be compassionate," says Beth Steinberg, chief people officer at Zenefits.
