Bottled water's year-over-year sales increased 5% in 2020, with the still segment consuming roughly two-thirds of sales volume, according to Gary Hemphill, Beverage Marketing Corp.'s managing director of research. Sports drink sales grew more than 10% in the convenience channel during 2020, according to Nielsen, with functional innovation expected to drive continued growth for both categories, said Samantha Overmole, a category manager at c-store chain Kum & Go.
