Aussie researchers pursue prehistoric enzymes

Natural enzymes found in biocatalysts often can't endure the heat required in biochemical processes and must be modified or replaced by synthetics. To address the issue, researchers at Australia's University of Queensland are peering into the distant past for enzymes that existed when the planet was much hotter, examining modern counterparts to imagine what they looked like 450 million years ago.
