New plant-breeding techniques may ease food insecurity

Hunger and malnutrition are two burdens many countries face, with food insecurity becoming a growing problem, but the use of novel plant-breeding techniques is helping boost crop yields and production while also making plants resistant to issues such as drought and pests. One method currently in use by plant scientists and researchers is the gene-editing technique CRISPR-Cas that is helping farmers increase productivity and be environmentally friendly.
