A student from the School of Environmental Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, India, has devised a new type of drinking straw made from the stem of an invasive local grass. The student, Shijo Joy, says using the stem of the grass called Potha was the result of a six-month search for alternatives that started with bamboo stalks.
