Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have developed a simpler form of metabolic engineering with a straightforward method to identify which bacteria can yield the highest concentrations of malonyl-CoA. Using the valuable chemical, the researchers enhanced biosensor bacteria with an enzyme complex that produces a red pigment to signal the presence of the target.
